# Notes by the Composer [[Enrique Ponce]]: When I was asked to compose this piece for string orchestra, I thought back to my own experience as a middle school musician. I remembered the thrill of playing music that felt larger than life - pieces that transported me to new worlds and made me feel like I was part of something exciting. At the time, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies were incredibly popular, and their bold, swashbuckling scores left a lasting impression on me. I would have loved to play something adventurous, something that sparked the imagination. With that in mind, I pictured grand adventures on the high seas - crashing waves, daring escapes, and the exhilaration of the open ocean. I wanted to capture that same sense of excitement and motion in this piece, giving young musicians the chance to experience the thrill of an epic journey through music, just as I would have wanted at their age.
