Journey is a "gifted" piece of music. Robert Buckley, a Canadian Composer, has undergone an important effort to reconciling our history with our present, connecting authentic indigenous music to the concert band tradition that descends from Western Europe. Chief Ian Campbell received this melody and is now the keeper of the melody, and it was gifted to Robert Buckley by the elders of the Squamish Nation for reimagining for the purposes of Concert Band. Many students in the current Senior Wind Orchestra were members of the Massed Band at the Sun Peaks Cantando Festival in 2024 when that Massed Band did the first-ever performance of *Journey (Paddle Song)*. A number of Squamish Elders were there for that performance.
