The Musician Showcase assignment gives students an opportunity to explore an avenue of music of their own choosing. It can be used to stand in for a Responding assignment, a Creating assignment or a Performing assignment. # Step 1 - Choose a Song Choose a song you think Mr. Windsor should include on his Spotify playlist. Try to choose one you don't think he would listen to regularly. It can be from any genre, any time period in history, of any instrumentation. Your challenge in this assignment is to teach Mr. Windsor about the music, musician, and perhaps even a bit about yourself. # Options ## For Responding marks With the song you chose, explain why Mr. Windsor should appreciate it. Consider the following; - musical elements and creativity - lyrics and the message - how the music enhances the message - why the artist or musician chose to make the message they did - A brief biography of the musician and their motivations in music ## For Creating marks With the song you chose, change it. Here are some options you can consider; - add or change a verse that you write - add or change the instrumentation - add a "cantor", or an extra musical line that could be played, possibly even with your band instrument that would enhance the song (for an example, listen to Disturbed's cover of *The Sound of Silence*, nearing the end there is an introduction of an acoustic guitar performing a different melodic line than normal in the music) - Your change should be written out in music, or recorded ![The Sound of Silence](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Dg-g7t2l4) ## For Performing marks With the song you chose, perform it.
